The Encounter Theater in Johnstown, New York

St. John’s Warehouse is an acting arts center in Brooklyn, New York. The site has been a part of the community since at least 1835, when it was called the “Cathedral Church.” At one time the location was known as the Holy Temple and then the Church of Saint Ann. In the mid 1800s, the site became the site of a prominent performing arts organization known as the “Cathedral Players.” A year later, the “Cathedral Players” moved to an apartment on Montague St., where the current theatre complex now stands. In the 1920’s, the site underwent a major renovation. Now, it’s known as the Saint Ann Warehouse.

Johnstown Warehouse is currently owned by the “Cathedral Players,” the same company that operates St. John’s Warehouse. The present building is a multi-purpose facility that is open to the public. It contains three main areas: an indoor stage, an outdoor stage and an observation deck. In addition, there are also a number of rehearsal and performance studios and an “interactive” film screening room. Other amenities include an art studio, a pool table, a restaurant, a barber shop and an auditorium. Several of the theatres are located within the Warehouse, and there is even one on the premises that serves food and drinks!

One of the most unique features of Johnstown Warehouse is their “An Encounter Theater” feature.
